How overtime pay works in Canada
Most employees earn 1.5× their regular rate for hours beyond the standard work week (often 40 or 44 hours, depending on the province). Some situations pay double time. This is gross pay — your take-home will be lower after tax, CPP and EI. To see the after-tax figure, use the take-home pay calculator or the bonus tax calculator for the overtime portion.
Overtime rules and thresholds vary by province and job type — check your provincial employment standards.
