How take-home pay is calculated
Your net pay is your gross income minus four deductions: federal income tax, provincial/territorial income tax, CPP (or QPP in Quebec) and EI. Quebec residents also pay QPIP and a lower EI rate, and federal tax is reduced by the 16.5% Quebec abatement.
2026 CPP and EI
- CPP: 5.95% between the $3,500 exemption and the $74,600 YMPE, plus 4% (CPP2) up to the $85,000 YAMPE.
- EI: 1.63% up to $68,900 (max ~$1,123); Quebec pays 1.30% plus QPIP.
