GST, HST, PST and QST — what's the difference?
- GST (5%) is the federal tax, charged everywhere.
- HST combines GST + provincial tax into one rate (ON, NB, NL, NS, PE).
- PST/RST is a separate provincial tax (BC, SK, MB) added on top of GST.
- QST is Quebec's provincial tax (9.975%) on top of the 5% GST.
